I was thinking the other day about how so many deserving movies just never make it to the World of Awards, and the ones that do often are boring, unaccessible, and/or uninteresting to common audiences. Not to criticize the Oscars (because I think an Oscar is the highest award an actor or a movie can receive), but it seems that what normal audiences like, value, or enjoy is not even a factor in what makes a movie or an actor the "best." For example, a few months ago I saw Things We Lost in the Fire. It is a remarkably good movie with a superb message, and Benicio Del Toro's acting was fantastic and real. I was hoping he would at least get a nomination for an Oscar this year, but no one ever mentioned him. And even though it was an excellent movie, very few people have even heard of it. So I thought that it was time to create an award that comes from the people and is presented by the people. Maybe I am a little naive, but I believe that anything is possible if we all put our heads together. This award has to come from us to actors and movie-makers as a sign of our acknowledgment of and respect for their work.
